Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility at Embsay School. The safeguarding of our children is the highest priority. Please use the links below to view our school policies and guidance for  parents/guardians in relation to safeguarding issues.

WHAT IS SAFEGUARDING?

Safeguarding means:

  • protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
  • preventing harm to children’s health or development
  • ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
  • taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes.

We seek to create a culture of safeguarding.  This was commented on in our OFSTED report:

'Staff take the protection and safety of pupils most seriously. They work well with other services, seeking support and advice where needed. Systems for recording information are detailed and well maintained. This helps leaders to see when and where they need to take action to keep pupils safe. The headteacher is persistent in ensuring that vulnerable families and pupils get what they need, when they need it. Staff get regular, good-quality training. They understand their duties well and know how and to whom they must report concerns. Their knowledge of matters related to the Prevent duty is suitably well developed.'

WHO TO SPEAK TO

If you have any concerns regarding the welfare of a pupil, please report it to a Designated Safeguarding Leader (DSL) or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leader (DDSL)
