Dear parents,

As we unbelievably move towards the final few weeks of your child’s journey through Embsay Primary, I thought I’d take this opportunity to write and update you on several upcoming dates of importance as well as the events we have planned which will hopefully make those weeks as memorable as possible after what has certainly been an incredibly unusual couple of years.

· Secondary transition visits to Embsay: most secondary schools have now organised, or are in the process of organising, visits to Embsay to meet the children. Our next confirmed visit is with Upper Wharfedale on Wednesday 8th June. (Skipton Academy and Skipton Girl’s High School have already visited.)

· Sandylands Multi-Sports Afternoon: Year 6 children will be taking part in an afternoon of sports at Sandylands on Friday June 10th – the children should already be wearing their PE kit, however please ensure they have suitable outdoor sports footwear and warm outer layers in the event of inclement weather.

· Transition visits to Secondary Schools: children will be visiting their secondary school as part of transition in late June/early July. Your child’s confirmed secondary school should hopefully have been in touch to confirm this, or certainly will be in the near future.

· Sports Day: the children will take part in our annual Sports Day on Thursday 7th July (morning). Further information will be sent out in due course.

· Shakespeare Drama Workshop and Performance: Year 6 are very lucky to be taking part in a two-day workshop in school over Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th July. This will focus on a Shakespeare piece of theatre which will then be performed to parents on the afternoon of the 13th July at 2.30pm. Further details will be sent out closer to the date.

· Leavers’ Service: the service will take place at St. Mary’s Church on Monday 18th July at 7pm. Children are busy learning their songs for this and I would be grateful if you could encourage as much practice as possible! Some children have asked to showcase a talent, in this case, I have asked those children to be prepared to show me their rehearsed piece on Monday 27th June. If your child is one of those who have decided to perform, I would be grateful if you could support and encourage them to rehearse at home.

· Brass Recital: the children have worked so hard learning brass instruments over the past two years and as such, would like to share their talents with you. A small recital is being organised for the Wednesday afternoon of the last week of term; further information will be shared nearer to the time.

· End of Year Trip: we have organised a trip to Yorkshire Xscape at Castleford on Thursday 21st July. The children will enjoy back to back games at ‘Laser Zone’ as well as a hot pizza buffet. This will be followed by a game of fun golf at 4D (glow in the dark) Golf. Further information pertaining to food requirements, cost and timings have been sent out in a separate letter.

· Awards: the children will be designing and making awards for all the other children in their class which will be presented to them at the Leavers’ Service.

· Hoodies and Yearbook: this year’s yearbook content has been finalised ready to be sent off to the supplier; they should hopefully be with us in time for the last week of term. Hoodies will be presented to the children as part of their Leavers’ Service.

· Signing of t-shirts and photos: on the final day, Friday 22nd July, Year 6 will be able to sign t-shirts, get autographs and take photos with their friends. The children are allowed to bring a camera to school for this. Children who wish to use their phone to take photos will be allowed to do so on the agreement that phones are only switched on when allowed (at agreed, specific times) and no texts or call phones are to made whilst on school premises.

If you do not wish your child to take part in the signing of t-shirts/photos, please can you inform the office.

I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks and appreciation for the support you have given the children over the past year. They have certainly experienced some extraordinary times in recent years and it is my hope therefore that, whilst it has not always been straight forward, we have managed to bring some form of normality back to their school experience in time for their last year at Embsay. They have worked incredibly hard this year and demonstrated not just their tenacity for coping in unprecedented circumstances, but also their resilience and commitment to being the fantastic children they are. They deserve a huge well done – and a sincere thank you - from me.

If you have any further questions, please contact myself or Mrs Prest via the school office.

Best wishes,

Julia Sanderson
