Dear Parents

Year 5 Residential Visit

We are planning to take the Year 5 children to the Old School House in Robin Hood’s Bay near Whitby during the Summer Term next year. Previously we have been to Boggle Hole YHA, which was excellent, however their new prices and minimum stay policy meant that we felt this was no longer economical. So, after some research we have found somewhere new! The Old School House is a privately-owned property which caters to large groups. We will have exclusive use and it is much closer to Robin Hood’s Bay itself. You can find out more here www.oldschoolhouserhb.co.uk

Whilst we are there we will be able to take advantage of all the same activities as previous years such as fossil hunting, rock-pooling, treasure hunting, smuggling games and a coastal walk.

The visit will take place on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th of May 2024, with children staying overnight on the Tuesday    at the Old School House. Mr Hardman will accompany the children along with other members of staff. Below is an example format of the two days and details of the activities which will be confirmed nearer the time.

ITINERARY

Tuesday: Children to arrive at school by 8.45am with their luggage ready to leave by coach at 9am.

We will arrive at the Old School House by 12.30 noon having a short stop along the way. Packed lunches will be eaten on arrival and the children welcomed by the Old School House staff. We will then take part in a 3 hour afternoon activity which is likely to be outside, on the beach. Rooms will be ready and the children will have some down time together before their evening meal and there will be a final activity before bedtime.

Wednesday: On the second day, we have breakfast, clear the rooms and then the staff will run another activity in the morning. We will have our packed lunches before we leave at 1pm.  With a stop along the way, we plan to be back at school between 3-3.30pm.

The evening meal, breakfast and lunch for Wednesday will be provided by the Old School house.

The children will sleep in rooms with four or six beds. The staff, who will be accompanying the children, will be accommodated in adjacent rooms. We have exclusive use of the building. Lists of items / clothing etc to take will be given out to the children after the Christmas holiday, along with a medical information and contact details form.

The price of the two-day visit will be £75.28 per pupil, which covers coach transport there and back, full board accommodation, consisting of an evening meal, bed, supper, breakfast, packed lunch on the Wednesday and all tuition, guided walks and craft / science materials. The children will need to bring a packed lunch with them for the day of arrival on the Tuesday.

As this is a residential visit, payment is only a voluntary contribution in relation to travel and activities during the normal school day and not in relation to the cost of board and lodging. Therefore, for the trip to go ahead, school will need to receive sufficient funds from Parents / Carers.  A deposit of £10 will need to be made by Friday 1st December, with the full amount of £75.28 paid by 9th April 2024. Please make your payment through Parent Pay. Once the deposit has been made through Parent Pay you are automatically consenting to your child participating in this activity and agreeing to pay the full amount by the due date. If you may experience difficulty paying this amount, then please call in at the school office to let us know.

I am sure the children will thoroughly enjoy their two day visit, benefitting both academically and socially. I hope I have supplied all the relevant information you require at this stage, there will be more to follow but please don’t hesitate to contact either Mr Hardman or myself if you have any further queries or concerns.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Tim Whitehead
