Thursday, 13th July, 2023 1 - 8pm

Dear Parents and Carers,

Information about our Year 6 performance of Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’

with Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation

Year 6 will be performing their version of ‘The Tempest’ at South Craven School’s Fells Theatre on the evening of Thursday 13th July.

We had initially limited ticket allocation to 5 per pupil, however, availability does now allow us to remove this limit.  Please note, we are performing alongside one other school; therefore, tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis.

The booking link below will go live at 5:30pm on Friday 30th June. (All tickets are free of charge.)

Costumes

We are creating and providing costumes the children may need to wear specific to their character, however, we do need all the children to wear dark clothing underneath any costume we provide.

Your child may choose to wear plain, dark leggings, jogging bottoms or shorts, and a dark t-shirt – black preferably, or navy blue if black is not possible. Ideally, the clothing shouldn’t have any bright logos or patterns on, however we may be able to cover these over with your permission using pinned on fabric. If that is necessary, we will need to know asap so we can make sure your child’s costume is prepared prior to performance day. We would be grateful if all children could bring in the above items of clothing, with their names on, asap, and no later than 10th July.

Information about performance day:

On the day itself, your child will have their lunch in school prior to leaving for South Craven School; the coach will depart from the village car park at 12:30pm. They will then also need a ‘packed dinner’ to eat whilst at South Craven School, prior to their final warm-up and performance: your child will not be returning home in-between the rehearsals in the afternoon and the performance on the evening, therefore it is very important that they are provided with food for their dinner and water/juice to drink with it, as well as a water bottle which we can refill at the school when necessary for rehydration throughout the afternoon/evening.

Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation have provided us with the following itinerary for the day; please note that this is an outline and could change slightly. If anything does change significantly, we will let you know.

On-site car parking will be available for those attending the performance/collecting a child. South Craven School has asked that you follow signposting for ‘Communihire’ and park in the appropriate, designated areas. The theatre will also be signposted from the parking area.

Photography and Filming

As part of rehearsals and the final performance, Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation have asked to take video evaluations and photographs. In order to do so, we need to provide them with permission for the following:

“Without expectation of compensation or other remunerations, now or in the future, I hereby give Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation:

    • Permission to use photographs or film of the students for use in marketing materials and other media activities, including the internet and social media. These materials may also be provided to a third party for use as examples of our work.
    • Permission to use written quotes and case studies from/about students for use in marketing materials and other media activities, including the internet and social media. These materials may also be provided to a third party for use as examples of our work.”

Please note, in line with Coram’s Safeguarding policy, filming and photography of the actual performance is not permitted by members of the audience. A professional photographer may be operating on the day to take photos which will then be made available to buy at the end of the performances; we hope to receive confirmation of this asap. We are, however, permitted to film and photograph our dress rehearsal in the afternoon and share that with you following the final performance (free of charge!).

Please could we ask you to use the following link to give the various consents required by Monday 3rd July –

The children have all been working exceptionally hard over the past few weeks; learning lines, taking stage directions, creating set designs and costumes. Shakespeare is no easy feat and they have taken to it with great enthusiasm, patience and interpreted it in such a way that this performance will be entirely unique to them – it will never have been performed this way before, ‘nor will it be again.

We are so incredibly proud of them all and hope you can help in joining us to celebrate this end of year performance with the children and support them on the night.

If you have any questions, please contact the school office asap who will pass them on to the relevant member of staff to resolve.

Thank you for your continued support.
