The curriculum at Embsay CofE (VC) Primary school is designed to support our school ethos and vision:

We work together to nurture an inclusive family of hard-working respectful individuals who have a lifelong love of learning

“Life in all its fullness” (John 10:10)

This is exemplified by our school values:

We consider that these values underpin a child’s ability to learn and achieve their potential.  They therefore form an integral part of our teaching and learning.

The values are specifically developed through initiatives such as Philosophy for Children, Working with Others, 3B4Me (which encourages the use of use of different resources before requesting adult support), but also through our culture of care and respect for all.

The school fully implements the National Curriculum 2014, but this is only the base for our learning both in terms of knowledge and skills. We want the children to develop mastery of their learning, so time is spent looking at concepts in depth in order to enable the children to achieve a deeper richer understanding and to apply what they have learnt to new learning.  We seek to do this through an engaging, mainly topic based, curriculum, which includes holistic experiences and which promotes engagement by all.

The topics being covered, broken down into the individual subject areas, are communicated to parents each half term via our Parent Topic Plans.
