Thursday, 8th February, 2024 1 - 3pm

Dear Parents and Carers,

In Year one, we are currently studying the topic ‘London Calling’ and since we are not planning on going to London, ‘The great fire’ is coming to Embsay.  This will take the form of an exciting outdoor workshop which will cover key science, history and D&T objectives using outdoors. The workshop will be practical and hands-on and we plan to create a memorable, muddy experience for all involved!

The workshop lasts 2 hours and will take place on Thursday 8th February from 1pm – 3pm. All resources are provided for the workshop - all we need is a class who are dressed for the weather and working outdoor on the field.

Your child will need: -

  1. Wellies (or boots that can get muddy)
  1. Warm Waterproof coat
  1. Waterproof trousers (if your child owns some, please do not purchase specially)

Under the terms of the Education Reform Act 1988 the school is not allowed to make a charge for this activity, but we are permitted to ask for contributions, and the governors have authorised us to do so. I am sure you will understand that we cannot afford to pay for this visit from within the funds available to us so may I ask you, therefore, if you would be willing to make a voluntary contribution of £9.52 towards the cost of the activity. No child will be excluded if his or her parent does not make this contribution, however if insufficient voluntary contributions are received regrettably the activity will not go ahead.  Payment is through ParentPay and should be made by Wednesday 7th February 2024. When using this online payment system, you are automatically consenting to your child participating in this activity, therefore no reply slip needs to be returned.

I feel sure that the children will benefit both educationally and socially and I am sure that you will want to help us to run the event.

If you have any queries, or would like more information, please speak to a member of the Year 1 team.

Yours sincerely

Mrs. Hayes
