Stick Puppet Shadows

Inspired by the Shadow that the Mouse made in the story of 'The Gruffalo's Child,' we decided to explore Shadows.

We went outside on a sunny day and recreated our own 'Big Bad Mouse' Shadows. We learned that we needed the sun to create our shadow.

We also made our own Stick Puppets using some card and a lollipop stick. Then, we used a torch to shine a light on our stick puppet in order to create a Shadow. We discovered that when we put our stick puppet close to the torch it made a big shadow and that when we moved the stick puppet away from the torch, its shadow became smaller. We loved moving our stick puppets and changing the size of its shadow.

Next, we used a hole puncher to make some holes in our stick puppets. We discovered that the light from the torch went through the holes - we thought this was amazing!

Some of us also made shadow puppets using our hands and had fun trying to create different shaped Shadow Animals!

What fun we have had exploring and investigating Shadows!
