We have been enjoying learning about Chinese New Year in our Reception classroom.
We learned that people hang banners in their homes to decorate them for the Lunar New Year and, so, we decided to make some of our own banners for our classroom. We used Hanzi characters to write the Mandarin Chinese message of 'Kung Hei Fat Choi,' which means 'Congratulations and Best Wishes for a prosperous New Year!'
We worked hard to copy each Hanzi character and discovered that writing in Mandarin Chinese was different to the letters we usually write in our classroom. We loved doing this writing, though!
