Dear Parents / Carers,

As part of our work on Growing, Plants and Animals next half-term, we have arranged to take the Reception and Year 1 children to Harlow Carr Gardens in Harrogate. The children will have the chance to explore the gardens and to participate in the ‘Who Lives In Our Garden?’ workshop, led by some of the Education Staff at Harlow Carr. The visit will take place on Wednesday 18th May and will last all day. (We will leave school at 9am and will return to school by 3.20pm.)

Under the Universal Free School Meals Scheme, the cook will provide a packed lunch for all children, which will include a choice of sandwich, a piece of fruit, vegetable sticks and a tray bake. Please select your sandwich choice via the following link, by the 3rd May. By using the link you can also indicate if you would prefer to provide your own packed lunch.

Please feel free to send your child with an extra drink and fruit snack, packed in a small rucksack / bag which we will leave in the Education Centre at Harlow Carr whilst we explore the gardens. No spending money will be needed during our visit.

The children will need to wear School Uniform, sensible shoes and, as the weather is unpredictable, it is essential that your child brings a waterproof coat and sunhat. If it is very sunny, it may be advisable to put sun cream on your child before they leave home as we will not be able to apply it during our visit.

We are taking several members of school staff with us on our visit, but would appreciate some parent helpers too. If you are interested in helping us, please let Mrs Pearce or Miss Falkner know, or email the School Office who will forward your information to us. If we have more parent volunteers than required, we will draw names out of a hat, and then inform you.

Under the terms of the Education Reform Act 1988, the school is not allowed to make a charge for this activity, but we are permitted to ask for contributions and the Governors have authorised us to do so. I am sure you will understand that we cannot afford to pay for this visit from within the funds available to us so may I ask you, therefore, if you would be willing to make a voluntary contribution of £9.05 towards the cost of the visit.

Payment should be made through Parent Pay by Tuesday 3rd May. No child will be excluded if his / her parent does not make this contribution. However, if insufficient voluntary contributions are received, regrettably the activity will not go ahead.

We are sure the children will thoroughly enjoy their visit and will gain lots from it. If you have any more questions regarding our visit to Harlow Carr Gardens, please do not hesitate to speak to Mrs Pearce or Miss Falkner.

Yours faithfully,

Fiona Prest
