Dear Parent and Carers,

We have been kindly invited to make a return visit to the Holme Grown Eastby community gardening project next week, on Tuesday 27th September. The visit is in association with Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust ‘Bee Together’ project.

As you will be aware, in previous visits, the children have carried out science-based surveys including changes to plant life, insect observation and soil sampling. The sites the children sampled are now ready for planting and we have therefore been asked to help take part in seed scattering and plug planting.

This is a lovely opportunity for the children to be able to revisit the site to see how things have progressed, and is something which not only supports the school in its involvement with community projects, but in particular, encourages a positive contribution to eco and climate enhancing projects in our local area.

The visit will also contribute to our Science curriculum topics ‘Living Things and their Habitats’ which we will be studying later in the year.

We plan to walk the children up to the site where they will spend the morning, before returning to school in time for lunch.

The journey is approximately 1 mile each way and will be on a mixture of roads and footpaths so comfortable shoes should be worn. Wellies or boots can be worn if preferred. Children should bring their school shoes to change into on return to school. A waterproof coat/sun hat should also be brought depending on the weather. Children can also bring snacks, however they need to be suitable for eating in the outdoors and should fit into their pocket. Any waste will need to be carried back to school.

We have been advised that should weather conditions make the planned activities too difficult to go ahead, the project visit will be re-organised – possibly to the following day (Wednesday 28th). If this becomes necessary, we will contact you by email.

This trip is a local visit and a separate consent is not required under the terms of our Educational Visits Policy.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school office who will direct your enquiry to a relevant member of staff.
