Dear Parents and Carers,
Further to Mrs Prest’s message yesterday, please find set out below key information about the current timetable in Year 1. The changes in staffing and the opportunity for some tennis sessions with Skipton Tennis Club (which the children are enjoying immensely) have meant some changes were necessary.
Mrs Hayes is teaching the class on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Miss Adams is teaching on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but is in fact with the class for a considerable amount of the rest of the week as well. Mrs Kent is with them every day. Mrs Williams will be returning from maternity leave the week before half term and teaching on the Wednesdays and Thursdays, however Miss Adams will still be very much involved with the class.
Overview
Year 1 children will be asked to complete the following homework:
• A weekly numeracy activity
• A weekly literacy activity
• Weekly spellings which will be assessed and given out on a Wednesday.
• Reading – a minimum of 5 minutes every night. Books will be changed every Monday and checked on a Thursday. They won’t automatically be changed on a Thursday; it depends on the progress of individual children.
Homework
This will be sent out every Friday. The homework will be due back on Thursday the following week, but please send their homework book back in as soon as they have completed it so that we can get them ready for the next week. Homework will be linked to what we are doing in class or consolidation.
Spellings
These will be sent in their yellow spelling books on Wednesdays so that you will be able to see the previous week’s work. Please make sure that these are sent in every Wednesday for their spelling test.
Show and Tell
This will be on Thursdays but please only send in items that can fit in their book bags to stay in the cloakroom for the day. Please don’t send in items that are very fragile or very precious or could be considered dangerous in any way.
PE
Tuesday afternoon – Tennis with Skipton Tennis centre – this session may change after half term
Thursday morning – P.E with Kanga. Miss Hindle should be back next week following an operation. There is usually another member of Kanga staff with her as well.
