Dear Parent / Carer

You should now have received your child’s updated draft Support Plan (IEP).

We would be grateful if could you add any comments you have regarding your child’s strengths, needs, targets or outcomes in the ‘Parent Views’ section. Once you are happy with the draft and all reviews are complete, I will send you the Finalised copy.

Important Update:

I would also like to take this opportunity to explain a little bit about what is happening in school regarding Individual Education Plans (IEP), also known as Support Plans:

Working collaboratively with ADYS, I am currently developing a more cohesive and consistent approach to providing individual plans for our children with SEND needs. We have identified some areas of improvement in our SEND provision which we are working hard to implement. This does take time however and is not something that should be rushed – we want to get it right.

Our current Support Plans (IEPs) are gradually being replaced by something called a Pupil Overview of Provision (POP). Staff have been/will be taking part in meetings to review their current target setting processes and transfer these across to the new format.

We are working to make our targets SMART – Smart, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-bound. The new POP format is far more comprehensive and will chart your child’s targets and provision across the three terms of the year. Each POP will show your child’s Autumn plan, Spring Plan and Summer plan as they are created. It will be a working document, as all provision maps/support plans should be, and as such, targets can be amended throughout that term to reflect your child’s progress and any additional recommendations from other professionals involved, or indeed any new needs as they arise.

The POPs also allow for the easier coming together of information from your child’s EHCP if they have one, including progress against EHCP Outcomes and any evidence and recommendations provided in official reports. We hope you will agree that, whilst it might take some time adjusting to the new format, it is in the best interests of your child and ensures they receive the correct level of provision through a consistent and cohesive approach.

When is this happening?

While most of you will receive the recognisable Support Plan currently in use in school on this occasion, our Reception Pupils have already been transferred over to the new POP format. Some of the additional sections on the form are still in progress, but this does not affect the functionality of the targets and provision listed on the Spring Support Plan, ‘nor your child’s strengths and needs listed in section one. The remainder of our year groups are being transferred over as we speak; all Summer Term Support Plans which will be issued in May/June 2024 will be sent out on the new POP format.

If you have any questions about this process or would like to see a blank copy of the POP to familiarise yourself in advance, please let your class teacher know and I will be happy to discuss this with you.

Reception parents, if you would like your class teacher or I to explain anything on the new POP format that you are unsure of, please ask. We are happy to help explain the process further.

In the meantime, please accept my thanks on behalf of the school for your patience as we incorporate these changes across our SEND Provision.

Kindest Regards,

Julia Sanderson (SENCo)
