Trenches Project: what was life like for men fighting in the trenches in WW1?

Due: 14.12.23

For this term’s topic homework, we will be focusing on History and thinking about what life was like for soldiers fighting in World War 1.

I would like you to research life in the trenches – a research sheet has been provided as a starting point – and then use this information to help you to create a model of a WW1 Trench and an accompanying fact file.

You can produce your model and fact file using media and methods of your own choosing; we have had an edible cake trench made one year – but do be mindful that this can’t be displayed for very long! We’ve also had some students produce models in their garden, then send in a video explaining its features and what life was like for the soldiers. You can of course stick to using card, and craft materials and produce a handwritten or word-processed fact file that you can bring into school to be put on display.

Some examples of last year’s projects can be found on the school website here, along with some of our Paul Nash artwork which will be displayed alongside your trench models and fact files: https://www.embsay.org/world-war-one-projects-and-artwork
